What is KHEC?

The Kapolei Homestead Enterprise Corporation is a native Hawaiian homestead organization that connects homesteaders to job training, entrepreneurship training, construction and permanent employment, and business ownership opportunities on Hawaiian Home Lands and across the Kapolei region. KHEC believes Hawaiian Home Lands are more than homesteading alone. The Hawaiian Home Lands Act was meant to build our community, and KHEC works to truly activate the Act. KHEC is building partnerships with developers and organized labor so the economic growth happening in Kapolei benefits the homesteaders who live here. Prince Kūhiō Gateway

A beneficiary led project that transfers fee simple land into the DHHL land inventory at no cost to the Department, delivered with a full commercial development. PKG activates the purpose of the Hawaiian Home Lands Act, producing income for the Department, a community benefits package, union construction jobs, and employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for beneficiaries. KHEC works closely with the developers to negotiate the community benefits package and will receive a portion of the revenue. Together with the developer, KHEC created the Kanaka Shark Tank, where homesteader entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to win designated commercial spaces within the development.

Queen Liliʻuokalani Studios

A studio and creative enterprise development within the Prince Kūhiō Industrial Park on Hawaiian Home Lands. KHEC is working with the developer to create jobs and economic opportunities for beneficiaries: union construction jobs building the facility and permanent jobs operating it. The studios create entrepreneurial opportunities and training for native Hawaiians in front of and behind the camera, including acting, producing, directing, editing, sound, lighting, and creative media enterprise.

Homestead Music Festival

An annual weekend celebration of music and talent from homestead communities across all islands. The inaugural festival is planned for July 2027 and is planned to become one of the biggest events on Oʻahu each year. Entrepreneurial opportunities for KHEC members as vendors, producers, and creative services providers. A showcase for the talent and culture of the homestead community statewide.
